Over-The-Rhine Chamber of Commerce 2021 Holiday Events:

Shop Local Season Kicks-Off with Black Friday and Shop Small Saturday Specials, Winter Market Powered by the OTR Chamber and “Holidays in a Mug” Initiative

WHAT:  Kick-off the shopping season in OTR, with Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday specials from over 50 participating retailers! The OTR Chamber is also taking over the Winter Market in Washington Park the weekend of Friday, November 26th, through Sunday, November 28th, with local businesses selling holiday wares and gifts in cozy huts.
The OTR Chamber is also launching sales of an original holiday ornament, in partnership with Rookwood Pottery, as a part of their annual “Holidays in a Mug” initiative. The ornament was handcrafted by 12 Rookwood Pottery artists and the glaze color is ‘small business blue’, to symbolize the love and support of the Over-the-Rhine small business community. Proceeds from the sale of the OTR Heritage Mug Ornament, benefit the OTR Chamber, who supports the small business district which is home to over 400 small businesses.
Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic over the past year, 42 new businesses opened in Over-the-Rhine in 2021, 45% of which are minority-owned and 60% of which are woman-owned. The new businesses created more than 200 new jobs, and while restaurants and retailers were the most common businesses to open, the neighborhood saw consistent growth across all sectors, including non-profits and personal service businesses. The footprint of new businesses that opened also expanded, trending north of Liberty Street.
WHY:   With an ongoing global pandemic, OTR small businesses are relying on support this holiday season to continue to survive. It is more critical than ever to invest in our local communities, as  Civic Economics  reports that $68 of every $100 spent at a local business remains in the community, in comparison to $43 of every $100 spent at national chains
