1) What do you want people (the community) to know about your business?
We want people to know that we’re here and that we’re a growing small business. We have the ability to support all kinds and sizes of businesses. We provide a wide range of products to support commercial spaces and hospitality spaces as well. We’ve been here since 2009 and have had the opportunity to see the Renaissance start in OTR. We love to support other small businesses that are coming into the area.
2) Why did you decide to set-up your business in OTR?
I learned about our current space from Brandon Smith and the B2B Equities team. It was the size to fit our startup enterprise and it was close to downtown. Based on our discussions, I suspected that OTR would be a growing, thriving place for businesses. One surprise is I had no idea that the streetcar would also pass right by our showroom.
3) Is there anything that surprised you about working or having a business in OTR?
It has been surprising how fast the residential market has taken off. Also, I’m surprised with the number of restaurants/eateries that have popped up. OTR is a great place to eat and drink. It has been cool to watch the renovation of Washington Park…it has been a huge success. An unintended consequence is I don’t go to the CBD as much because OTR has become a convenient walkable neighborhood.
4) Do you have a favorite place you like to go in OTR? (Restaurant, bar, shop, place to exercise, theatre, etc.)
I try to spread my dollars around, so there are a lot of places that I frequent. I go to Bakersfield, Taste of Belgium, Mixx, Lavomatic (when it was open), 1215 Wine & Coffee, The Eagle and Washington Park to name a few. Really, I go to all of them, it is fun to pop into different places from time to time.
5) If you had a magic wand, what would you change in OTR?
People’s perception of OTR but that naturally takes time. Another thing would be finding that magical mix between the wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds of people that live work and play in OTR…but that’s a normal challenge. We have all these great businesses, residential options and overall investment… but with that comes some challenges.
